15 talented people, 500 square feet of room and an insatiable hunger to be the best creative agency ever. That’s how it all started on the 25th of March 1980 when A.G. Krishnamurthy founded Mudra Communications.

Mudra Videotec

Mudra Videotec laid the foundation for the brand-content dynamic that we see today. It brought in India’s top filmmakers decades before agencies entered content creation and production.Videotec also pioneered sponsored programmes on Doordarshan and famously co-produced iconic shows like Rajni, Buniyaad, Ek Do Teen Char, Panchee, Udaan, Quiztime, Mr Yogi, Bodyline, The Grammys, The Oscars, Living Legends, Live Aid, Spiderman, Paramveer Chakra and Miss Universe. It also produced India’s first tele-film, Janam, followed by Jeevan Sandhya and Swayam.They also televised the Reliance World Cup, the first global, sponsored live event to be aired in India.

A launchpad for success

Whether it be a multinational company looking to enter the Indian market or a homegrown brand expanding their horizon, Mudra has helped build some of the country’s biggest brands. These include McDonald’s, Samsung, Maxtouch (Vodafone), Nestle Polo, Vimal, Dhara, Volkswagen and Rasna.
Nestle Polo’s ‘Mint with the Hole’ campaign was even recognised as ‘Brand Launch of the Year’. While,‘McDonald’s Mein Hai Kuch Baat’ was instrumental in the brand’s adoption by Indians.Every 90s kid remembers ‘Karlo Duniya Muthi Mein’ which marked Reliance Infocomm’s entry into the communication sector and became the anthem of India’s mobile revolution.

Founded MICA to inspire generations of talent

Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA) is the first residential academic institution in the Asia-Pacific region dedicated to meeting the needs of the Marketing Communications industry.
Since its inception, MICA has produced thousands of professionals in the field of advertising, communications & marketing and is considered to be the best communications school in India.

Mudra House becomes a beacon for creative work

The Mudra House became home to 450+ Mudraites and was designed to unleash their creative energy. Years before the conversation became mainstream, Mudra House was designed in a conscious, environment friendly manner that makes it Gold LEED compliant.

A new dawn: Omnicom acquires Mudra

The Omnicom Group acquired a majority stake in Mudra Communications. This acquisition made Mudra a part of the DDB Worldwide network and led to the creation of the DDB Mudra Group.

Leadership

Meet Aditya Kanthy, our CEO & Managing Director. Having joined in 2003 as a Strategic Planning Executive, he quickly rose through the ranks to become one of the youngest CEOs in the industry. He was one of the key members to lead the transformation during the acquisition of Mudra Communications by the Omnicom Group.
Under his leadership, the Group has been recognized as one of the Top 20 creative agencies globally: winning at Cannes Lions 3 years in a row, Grand Prix at Spikes 2021 & 19, and the prestigious WARC Prize for Asian Strategy among others.
As a homegrown leader, Aditya embodies all that we stand for. He champions diversity through his support for The Phyllis India Project and OPEN Pride. Through the initiatives, he envisions a company culture that promotes diversity, equality, and inclusivity, led by a well-represented leadership team.
He advocates our Unexpected Works philosophy which marries ingenious creativity with unparalleled efficiency to drive business growth. This belief-in-action is the fuel behind the Group’s industry-leading new business performance, No.2 position in Effie India and Top 20 in Effie Index’s most effective agencies in the world.
His academic achievements include being a gold medalist from St. Stephen’s College and MICA. He is a passionate cricketer and is known for channeling his competitive on-field spirit into his leadership style.

This is Rahul Mathew, our Chief Creative Officer, and someone with that special creative Midas touch. His previous stints in some of the top advertising networks of the world has seen him rack up over a hundred metals and honours including a Grand Prix at the Asia Pacific Adfest. a Spikes Asia Grand Prix, multiple pencils at One Show, and lions at Cannes.
While he never realised his dream of becoming a professional sportsperson, Rahul has lived his life as one. Fiercely competitive, a big believer in teamwork, a relentless dreamer, gloats just right about his wins and hurts just enough from his losses.
Under his leadership, the DDB Mudra Group has had back-to-back wins at Cannes Lions 2018, 19 & 21, been ranked No.2 at Effie India 2020, won the Grand Prix at Spikes in 2019 & 21, won golds at WARC and was awarded the WARC Prize for Asian Strategy. Our more recent work, Project Free Period and Hashtags Don’t Heal, were awarded the inaugural D&AD Impact Prize Fund in addition to multiple metals and honours at Cannes, Spikes Asia, One Show and D&AD Impact. His vision steered us towards becoming one of the Top 20 creative and effective agencies globally by WARC and Effie Index in 2020.
Rahul has been ranked among the top 10 writers in India on multiple occasions. He ranked 3rd in India and 19th in Asia on Campaign Brief Asia’s list of Most Awarded Creative Heads 2021.

Rita Verma is the Executive Vice President and Head – HR for the Group. For a company that believes in putting its people first, Rita’s role is crucial to everything we do. She is responsible for creating an evolving people strategy that drives transformation and business growth.
An advocate for a culture that welcomes everyone, Rita has laid the groundwork for a diverse, inclusive and well-represented culture and leadership team through initiatives like Omniwomen, The Phyllis India Project, OPEN Pride & DDB Transit, and Equal Parenting.
With over two decades experience in talent development, she has also kickstarted growth initiatives like the High-Performance Program, Emerging Talent and DDB Next.

Ram is our Country Head and Managing Partner for Integrated Media. He heads the media function across all touch points for the group and is responsible for client budgets over $330M (RECMA) in P&L in India.
He is also a CXO level digital leader having been an entrepreneur thrice and successfully exiting twice. His first venture NetworkPlay was sold to Bertelsmann AG’s Gruner + Jahr GMBH in what was the first multimillion dollar ad network exits in India. His second venture, PlatformPlay Media Ventures, was merged with SVG Media which is now part of the Dentsu Aegis Network. His last venture, VelfieApp, is parked for now. He is considered a turnaround artist with a special ability to scale start-ups to multimillion dollar businesses. His favourite markets are US, MEA, India and APAC.
Ram brings a wealth of experience from his global leadership positions as CEO, MD, SVP, VP and Director at organizations like C1X Inc., Reliance JIO, Ibibo Group (now part of MakeMyTrip.Com), Tribal DDB (Omnicom Group), Madison Communications, Jobsahead.Com (now part of Monster.Com) and Indian Express. He has also been Founding Chairman at ad:tech, iMedia and TechCrunch India, and is credited for launching LinkedIn in India through the JVs he formed for NetworkPlay and PlatformPlay.
For some of his stellar achievements he has won awards across the globe including at Cannes, World Brand Congress and CMO Asia.
Ram is a prolific speaker at large format events, a voracious reader, and a reluctant writer although some of the biggest names in the publishing industry carry his articles around digital marketing, world economy and management.

Preetham Venkky, or just ‘Venkky’ to us, is President of 22feet Tribal Worldwide and the Chief Digital Officer of the DDB Mudra Group.
He has been instrumental in scaling the company’s offerings by developing broad external partnerships, building out internal infrastructures and exploring new business opportunities. Under his leadership, the Group’s talent is trained for the demands of our times and geared to apply technology to solve business challenges.
He has over 20 years of experience in some of the most digitally advanced markets in Asia including Hong Kong and China. Equipped with deep understanding of China’s digital ecosystem including social platforms like WeChat and Weibo, his rich portfolio boasts clients across diverse sectors like BFSI, automotive, and media. This includes Fortune 500 companies in Southeast Asia such as Singapore Airlines, DBS, OCBC, AIA, Volkswagen, Prudential, and Singapore Tourism Board.
Prior to this appointment, Venkky was Director & Partner at KRDS in Singapore. At KRDS, he built one of Singapore’s largest independent digital agencies from the ground up. Under his leadership, KRDS was awarded ‘Agency of the Year’ three years in a row.
